The Big Latch On 2006 - Wellington Region
A Women's Health Action Event
"THE MOST MOTHERS BREASTFEEDING SIMULTANEOUSLY"
Nationwide Latch On - Saturday 5th August 2006
A note from Women's Health Action: Thank you for your tremendous effort on Saturday. We are thrilled with the happy stories and responses we have had from you all. Numbers are now 717 mothers breastfeeding simultaneously around New Zealand – and those were the ones who went to a venue and raised their hands! Weather in the North of New Zealand was wet and stormy so we really appreciate the mothers and children who braved the weather too.
All venues contributed to our breaking last year's record. A big thank you to venues that had small participant numbers we would never have broken our record with out you. Venues who had bigger parties – well done too. TOGETHER we did it and can now celebrate this wonderful achievement at the end of World Breastfeeding Week 2006.
Profile and awareness of breastfeeding was raised with reports of our event on Prime, TV1 - see video on link
http://tvnz.co.nz/view/page/805580 and TV3 news on Saturday night and also some of the regional stations. TV crews found their way to quite a few venues around the country! Coverage in the main newspapers was also good.
See here for photos from the Wellington City Venue this year.
A big "Thank you" to all the Mums and babies who helped us to beat last year's NZ record!
