"Never believe that a few caring people can't change the world. For, indeed, they are the only ones who ever have." Margaret Mead
Many of us have been talking about this for a long while and I know that a couple of people have even gone a good stretch down the road of trying to make it happen in the past. This is just to let you know that a few of us are looking at this seriously again.
Whilst we would love that more people would choose to homebirth, we realise that there is a huuuuuge gap between that mental space of choosing hospital and choosing home for the birth of a baby... we are seeing the creation of a Birth Centre as being a stepping stone to encourage, in the long term, more home births - women who have the option to birth at a Birth Centre may then feel happier to choose home next time.
As well as it being a Birth Centre it will be new family community centre with space to relax and also focus on birth and parenting, where parents-to-be can get antenatal support and natural childbirth education and new parents can get postnatal support, breastfeeding encouragement and suggestions. We hope to create a community spirit and to provide other facilities for complementary practitioners who can offer classes for pregnancy or postnatally (e.g. yoga, pregnancy massage, aqua exercise, infant massage etc...)
No big task eh? Well we can dream and we may as well dream big!! We will be getting together a group of conscientious individuals to make this happen. We need people with a wide range of skills and no egos!
Our next meeting is to be advised.
